Feather River Democretic Club Scholarship

College Scholarship Application Requirements
 
  • Purpose:
 
The Feather River Democratic Club (FRDC) will offer one higher education scholarship to a graduating high school senior who is interested in making career choices in one of the following fields:
 
  • Political Science & Government: Studies focusing on democratic processes, political systems, and policy.
  • Public Policy & Administration: Programs dedicated to creating solutions for community issues and public service leadership.
  • Social Justice & Advocacy: Majors in sociology, ethnic studies, or social work that focus on equity and human rights.
  • Education & Human Services: Fields promoting community well-being, including teaching and social welfare.
  • Environmental Studies & Policy: Studies aimed at protecting resources and sustainability.
  • Community Organizing & Leadership: Coursework designed to foster active civic engagement.
 
  • Funding:
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a selected student. Funds will be provided once college enrollment has been completed and classes are provided to the committee chair.
 
  • Criteria for Selection:
  • Student has demonstrated an interest in one of the above career
  • Student has demonstrated service to their community in either the public or private sector.
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • High School transcript and Yuba College transcript, if applicable.
 
  • Application Procedure:
The applicant must fill out the official application packet and supply all information, emailed no later than February 1, 2027, to massengale.tammy@gmail.com. You will be notified of your application receipt.
  • Selection Procedure:
The sections of the application are weighed as follows:
      Section 2         35%
      Section 3         15%
      Section 4         10%
      Section 5/6     40%

  • We ask you attend our March fundraising dinner (March 12, 13, 19, or 20) where you will read your personal statement and meet our members. We will finalize the date when we contact the scholarship recipient.
 
  • Condition of Payment
Each recipient must enroll as a full-time student (10 or more units) and supply verification of enrollment completed by the registrar of the institution that the recipient plans to attend.
